How do leaderboards work?

• What is an impact point?
  • An impact point is equal to one tab! Every search you make on Search for a Cause is worth 26 impact points. These points represent the relative impact of each action and are the basis for your ranking on the leaderboards.
    In addition, US-based Tabbers can earn a 20% impact point multiplier for verifying their voter registration through VoteAmerica (use the link at the bottom of the Leaderboard). The 20% multiplier will be applied to all your impact points until election day on Nov. 5. 

• Is the leaderboard just for my specific cause or is it across all of Tab for a Cause?
  • The leaderboards are across all of Tab for a Cause

• What are all the different leaderboard groups?
  • The leaderboards are bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and diamond (in order from lowest to highest)

• If I switch to supporting a different cause, will I lose my place on the leaderboard?
  • Nope! Your place on the leaderboard will stay with you as you move between causes

• How do I move up to a higher leaderboard and when do I move down to lower leaderboards?
  • At the start of each week you will be put into a leaderboard with ~30 other Tabbers. At the end of the week, the top 3-5 Tabbers will move up one leaderboard level (for example from Silver to Gold) and the bottom 3-5 Tabbers will move down (from Silver to Bronze). Everyone else will stay at the same level of leaderboard for the next week. 

• I have Search for a Cause installed but the leaderboard only shows me using Tab for a Cause
  • The Search for a Cause icon will reappear once you make your first search that week. The leaderboard icons are showing what you used to gain impact points in that specific week

• What do I get for reaching higher leaderboards? 
  • Most importantly, a high leaderboard ranking indicates that you are having a large impact on the cause you are supporting. In addition, each week one Tabber who finishes in 1st place of their diamond leaderboard will receive a small prize (either some shop credit at the Tab for a Cause merch store, or a donation in their name to any 501c3 non-profit). 

• I just made a search/opened a new tab but my leaderboard score didn't change. What happened?
  • Sometimes our leaderboard can take a minute or two to update. Your new tab or search might not be reflected in your score immediately but it will be there soon!

• Can I use a bot to automatically open tabs or make searches? 
  • No, any Tabbers using bots to inflate their score will be removed from leaderboards. It is both unfair for competition, but also can harm our reputation with advertisers which would decrease the amount of money we can raise for amazing causes.
